Friday Lunch Concert Central Bar Royal Festival Hall
Listen to traditional Indian instruments performed live by the formidable Baluji Shrivastav OBE.
One of the greatest instrumentalists India has produced, Shrivastav is skilled in sitar, surbahar, dilruba, pakhavaj and tabla. Tragically blinded as a baby, it was in a school where music was a compulsory subject, that his talent became apparent. From a young age he toured India, playing with the National Ballet Troupe, which exposed him to the rich variety of regional musical styles that have become his lifelong fascination.
His versatility has seen him work with everyone from Indian dancers such as Akram Khan, and table accompanists such as Anindo Chatterji and Ustad Fayaz Khan, to recording music with the likes of Stevie Wonder, Massive Attack and Annie Lennox. This afternoon he plays alongside oud player Ziad Sinno.
